Trévenans

Trévenans is a common French, located in the department of the Territoire of Belfort and the area Franche-Comté.

The commune depends on the Canton of Châtenois-the-Forging mills.

It is made of two agglomerations: Trétudans and Vourvenans, communes which decided to amalgamate on July 1st, 1972. Coming from Mandeure and going up towards north the valley of Tasty the, a Roman way crossed the territory of the commune formerly. Today it is with the turn of the channel of the Haute-Saône , built to connect Ronchamps to the channel of the Rhone in the Rhine , a36 highway and trunk road RN437. The population of the commune was of 1038 inhabitants in 1999, a number which is in regular increase because of new constructions.

Trétudans

In 1147 the village of Trestudens had a vault depending, as well as the church of Bermont, of the priory of Lanthenans (Doubs). At the time of the division of the succession of Jeanne of Montbeliard, in 1347, Trétudans became Troscholdingen while becoming possession of the house of Austria.

The lords de Trétudans left a certain number of traces in the files of XIVe century, which proves their importance at this time.

  • 1147 the vault of “Trestudens” concerns the priory of Lanthenans and depends on the church on Bermont.
  • 1331 Jean and Pierre (or Perrin) of Trétudans are quoted like witnesses in an act dated April 5th.
  • 1333 Pierre and Jean recognize being vassal of the margrave de Bade, count de Ferrette. Huguenin, wire of Jean, are pilot of a sale. Pierre buys a farm with Grandfontaine (Doubs).
  • 1344 Pierre is indicated as tutor of the children of Richard de Bussurel.
  • 1347 the lord of Troscholtingen is vassal of the marquis de Bade. The village belongs to the town hall of Base-on-the Water and of prévôté of Belfort.
  • in 1373 and 1390, the knight Jean de Trétudans is quoted like witness in various acts.

Vourvenans

Oldest mention of the name of the locality ( Valvenans , at that time) in a charter of 1147 describing is the possessions of the priory of Lanthenans (Doubs) in the surroundings of Châtenois. The inhabitants of Vourvenans depended on the parish of Châtenois. In 1803 the population of the village was of 101 inhabitants, it counted 133 in 1962 of them ten years before fusion with Trétudans.
