Toyota Center (Houston)
The Toyota Center is a general sports room located at 1510 Polk Street in the downtown area of Houston, with the Texas.
Called name of the automobile manufacturer Japanese Toyota, the room shelters three sporting teams since her opening: the Rockets of Houston, frankness from Basketball of NBA, the Make of Houston, female frankness from Basket-ball of WNBA and the Houston Aeros, frankness from Hockey of the American Ligue of hockey. Its capacity is of 18.332 places for the Basket-ball (10 063 for the matches WNBA), 17.800 for the Hockey and more than 19.300 for the concerts, then it has 103 continuations of luxury and 2.900 seats of club.
History
In 2002, the sporting teams of Houston had made pressure on the city to obtain a new arena and to replace decayed the Compaq Center (The Summit) and its 16.285 places. Consequently, the Toyota Center was established and it since became their new room. The construction of the new building began the July 31st 2001.The Toyota Center was inaugurated the October 6th 2003 and approximately 2.500 workmen thus worked full-time during 2 years for its construction. The cost of the arena is estimated at $202 million dollars ($232 million with Tundra Garage which can shelter 2.500 cars) and its originators are architects of the companies Morris, HOK Sport and John Chase. The Rockets of Houston paid $8,5 million dollars to rent it and it is the July 23rd 2003 which Toyota bought the rights of name of the building by signing a contract of $140 million dollars over 20 years.
Gaining reward Allen Award for Civic Enhancement per Houston Exchange in 2003, the " Rookie off the Year" by Harlem Globetrotters in 2004 and one qualified with the finales for the reward of the " Best New Venue" Concert; of Pollstar Magazine, Toyota Center accommodated more than 1,5 million visitors during his first year.
The first event after the opening ceremony was a concert of Fleetwood Mac the October 6th 2003 and the first match of the Rockets of Houston in their new residence was against the Nuggets of Denver the October 30th 2003.
Conceived by HOK Sport and Entertainment Group with the firm Morris Architects which is based with Houston, the Toyota Center is accentuated by large open windows and seats more comfortable than in any other arena. The surface of play of the room is placed almost 10 meters below the level of the street, giving to Toyota Center the greatest lower line of the seats of any arena of the country. Coupled with Lexus Lounge and Red and White Bar' S, the center offers something for each one which makes of him the hottest spot for the sports and the entertainment with Houston.
