The Toxandrie is an area in the north of Gaulle Roman, whose site could be the sandy area ranging between the the Scheldt and the Meuse (Campine, the Brabant, Limbourg).
According to Lucien Musset, it can correspond to the zone of the people of the Texandri , located by Pline Old the at the west of the Scheldt, or the Texandria , quoted at the 9th century as being in the North-East of Antwerp.
It is the area where Francs saliens settled fought by the emperor Constant Ier between 340 and 350, then allowed on this territory with a statute of federate Peuple (Libanios, gold , LIX, 127). This frank small island inside the Roman Empire remained badly subjected, and in 358 the emperor Julien had after his military intervention to recognize the installation of other emigrants Francs saliens in Toxandrie (Ammien Marcellin).
