Town planning arranges
In France, the law of orientation for installation and the sustainable development of the territory voted in June 1999 and the law Urban Solidarity and Renewal of December 13rd 2000 redefined the agencies of town planning in the following way:
The communes, the public corporations of inter-commune co-operation and the territorial collectivities can create with the State and the public corporations or other organizations which contribute to the installation and the development of their territory, of the organizations of reflections and studies called “agencies of town planning”. These agencies have in particular the role of following the urban evolutions, of taking part in the definition of the policies of installation and development and with the development of the documents of town planning (in particular the Schémas of Territorial Coherence) and of preparing the projects of agglomerations in a concern of harmonization of the policies publiques.
The agencies of town planning are gathered within the National federation of the Agencies of Town planning (FNAU).
