The battle of the qualification of the town planners
For better defining and defending the trade of town planner, the Professional Office of Qualification of the Town planners (OPQU), was created on March 3rd, 1998 with the support of the Association of the mayors of France and the State, to ensure a public service mission, within the framework of a protocol signed with the Minister in charge for town planning, on July 22nd, 1998.
The Office is equipped, in particular, of the mission of allotting a professional qualification to the town planners and of making known it. This public service delegation is carried out by a Committee, then authenticated by the Board of directors of the OPQU, in the presence of a Government Commissioner. More than 400 town planners were thus qualified since the creation of the OPQU. This organization publishes each year a directory of the qualified town planners.
