Town hall of Stockholm
The town hall of Stockholm , in Swedish Stockholms stadshus , is the building of the municipal council of Stockholm in Sweden. It is located on the island of Kungsholmen in edge of the lake Mälar.
It was conceived by the architect Ragnar Östberg and was built between 1911 and 1923. It is contitué of eight million red bricks and is organized around two great places, an external court and an interior hall. The interior part was initially designed to be painted in blue and is also called " the hall bleu" or Blå hallen . But Östberg changed opinion in the course of construction of the building and preserved the color brick which it found prettier. This hall is famous to be the place where the banquet is held which follows the ceremony of handing-over of the Nobel Prize the December 10th of each year. At the top of the 106 meters of the tower are visible the Three crowns, which are an old symbol of Sweden.
In the south-west of the town hall is a pillar of approximately 20 meters in height with a statue of Engelbrekt Engelbrektsson at its top.
