The Tour Defense 2000 is the residential building highest of France. This tower is located in the district of Defense, on the commune of Puteaux.

It was built between April 1971 and November 1974. Its success was not immediate: at the end of 2 years, only one quarter of the apartments had been sold. Being slightly isolated compared to the other buildings from Defense, in top of the Chantecoq hillock, the inhabitants of the tower profit on 360° from a very beautiful panorama.

This building can be regarded as a vertical village: it comprises 47 stages, 308 apartments for a population of approximately 700 people. A nursery school occupies even the rez-of-street.
