Toussus-the-Noble

Toussus-the-Noble is a common French, located in the department of the Yvelines and the area Île-de-France.

Geography

The commune is located at the south of Versailles on the plate which begins, towards the east, with Palaiseau, in the Département of the Essonne, and is prolonged towards the west by the new city of Saint-Quentin-in-Yvelines, Guyancourt, Montigny-le-Bretonneux, Trappes, Élancourt.

The communes bordering are Cabin-in-Josas in the North-East, Jouy-in-Josas in the east, Saclay (the Essonne) in south-east, Villiers-le-Bâcle (the Essonne) in the south, Châteaufort in the west and Buc in north.

The commune is served by the secondary road 938 which circumvents the village by the east and makes it possible to rejoin Buc and Versailles, towards north, and Châteaufort, Magny-the-Hamlets and Saint-Rémy-the-Chevreuse towards the south.

In the railway plan, the station nearest is the Gare of Small Jouy - the Cabins, but its limited service road makes that the three stations of Versailles or the Gare of Saint-Rémy-the-Chevreuse are adapted for the access to the capital for example.

History

The August 24th 1944, the 2 {{E}} Armor-plated Division of the general Leclerc crossed the village at the time of its walk towards Paris.

The north of the communal territory, whose space occupied today by the aerodrome, belonged to the grounds of Large the Parc of Versailles. The commune has on its territory the door of the Salted Hole, one of the main doors to this Large Park. The length of the walls of this large Park was equivalent to 43 kilometers and were bored of 25 doors. The door of the Salted Hole was built-in the construction of a farm after the revolution. It is registered with the inventory of the conservations of the inheritance.

Economy

Toussus is known as being one of the cradles of the Aviation in France. Robert Esnault-Pelterie and Henri Farman settled there in 1907. Its current airport is primarily turned towards an aviation of businesses and tourism. Active aerodrome in France, it will celebrate its centenary from September 10th to 16th 2007.

Toussus accommodates also an air and sea, renamed base E.A.N (Ets Aéronautique Naval) and a ZAC of businesses.
