Tournefeuille

Tournefeuille (occitan: Tornahuèlha ) is a common French, near to Toulouse, located in the department of the Haute-Garonne and the area the Midday-Pyrenees.

The name Tournefeuille does not have unquestionable source. It could come owing to the fact that the village was before in a forest, and thus Entouré of sheets . This would give in Languedocien (a dialect of language of oc) entornefeil , from where Tornefeil .

Its inhabitants is called Tournefeuillais.

History

The first traces of dwelling date from the Préhistoire, as excavations carried out along Touch show it. But the village is really formed during the Moyen-âge. Tournefeuille is a seigniory and the appendix of the Paroisse of Saint Nicolas's Day of Toulouse as of 1503, the Seigneurie becomes a Marquisat under Louis XIV.

Demography

Tournefeuille remains a small village until in the years 1960, reaching the thousand of inhabitants painfully. Of 1960 with 1990, the city increases exponentially: benefitting from the dynamism of Toulouse, it passes from 2200 to 17000 inhabitants. In 1999, it counted 22000 inhabitants (given INSEE) and would reach of 25-28000 inhabitants in 2005.
