Tourism in the Haute-Saône

The Haute-Saône is mainly a destination of country holidays and countryside. Its principal visited sites are:

the Glassmaking of art of Gangway-the-Rochère,
the town of water of Luxeuil-the-Baths to the rich person inheritance,
Lure where one celebrates the Camember Sapper,
Gray, city with the influence “bourguignone” which has beautiful elements of inheritance of which its superb town hall,
Champlitte and its museums, with in particular the departmental museum Albert Demart (museum of arts and traditions popular).
between Lure and Belfort, Ronchamp has a remarkable church, the Notre-Dame vault Top. The latter is the work of the architect Le Corbusier and was built in 1955.

It is also necessary to announce Ecomusée of the Cerise and the Kirsch of Fougerolles and the House of Négritude and the Human rights to Champagney.

The inheritance, vernacular and erudite, is disseminated very largely on the territory. It was in particular built with XVIIIe and XIXe centuries, period ostentation for this territory (churches with their traditional retables and baroques, buildings and works public, castles and residences, fountains and laundrettes). Eleven boroughs and villages belong to the network of the “Small cities comtoises of character” (Vauvillers, Faverney, the Scey-on-Saone, Villersexel, Fondremand, the Ray-on-Saone, Champlitte, Bucey-lès-Gy, Gy, and Marnay and Pesmes).

The Haute-Saône is especially a place of peace and pastoral spaces favourable with the walk in Forêt, with VTT, with horse, in particular in summer when the temperature remains pleasant. Lastly, the Haute-Saône is a famous destination of river Tourisme. Five companies propose, on the Saone, the hiring of “horse-drawn barges”, at the beginning of Corre, the Port-on-Saone, the Scey-on-Saone, Seveux - Savoyeux and Gray.

In 2004, the tourist activity in the department represented approximately 85 million euros of tourist expenditure, that is to say 2 million tourist nights. This result places this French department at the 89ème place on 95 (cf national memorandum of tourism 2004).

The offer as regards lodging represents approximately 50000 tourist beds, of which 10000 only present a commercial character. That constitutes the principal handicap to be filled by the public actors in the years which come.

The Haute-Saône also has a ski station of track to the Board of the Beautiful Girls (the Vosges) and some basic ski slopes, of which a fact the junction with the field of ski touring of the Balloon of Alsace.
