Tourism in the Cantal

With the Agriculture, the Tourisme is one of the main resources of the Département of the Cantal.

Country holidays

Located in the Regional natural park of the volcanos of Auvergne, the Cantal is a department with very weak urbanization. One practices there especially tourism of medium mountains, in particular country holidays

The most visited places are the Puy Mary (1787 m) considered as one of most beautiful panoramas of Europe, the Plomb of the Cantal (1855 m), the village of Salers, the Throats of the Truyère (with the Viaduc of Garabit, the Château of Alleuze), the village of Boisset…

Summer season

Among the activities suggested one counts especially the discovery of the Chantillian solid mass through the pedestrian Randonnée or with VTT. One also counts many tourist-cycling. Roads are especially arranged for this purpose, like Maurs with Roannes-Saint-Mary while passing by the throats of Rancid and the village of Boisset.

The department proposes also “traditional” activities more such as the Escalade, the Canyoning or fishes it.

The relief also allows the practice of the Coasting flight: the sector around the Puy Mary is very attended by the amateurs of Parapente.

Winter sports

Thanks to its relief, the Cantal can count on a snowing up which allows the practice of the winter sports. The station of the Lioran (greater skiable field of the Massif Central) allows the practice of the Alpine skiing, with specific installations for the Snowboard or the Patinage. excursions in rackets are also possible.

Through the department, one counts several hundred kilometers of tracks of Ski touring.
