Tourism in Haute-Savoie

An important economic weight

The sector of tourism represented at the end of December 2000, 635.000 beds divided into:

1.250 rural lodgings
803 hotels
453 rooms of hosts
191 camp-sites
70 lodgings of stage-stays
40 refuges of high-mountain

The figure is not any more that of 612.600 beds in 2004, of which 70% can be occupied as well the winter as the summer.

In 2004, the frequentation was of 38 million nights, including 56% over the only season of winter. The tourist cities having the greatest capacity of reception many beds are: Chamonix, Morzine, Megève and Clusaz.

The lakes Léman and of Annecy (purest of Europe) give to Haute-Savoie this exceptional environment of beaches with panoramic sight on the high mountain… 21 communes are equipped with marinas which make it possible to be devoted to the nautical pleasures; the department counts 47 plages.
The solid mass of the Mont Blanc attracts the mountaineers and climbing whole world. Two thermal spas of international repute, Evian-the-Baths and Thonon-the-Baths, like that of Saint-Gervais-the-Baths, accommodate many curists.

Located in the middle of four great skiables fields - Doors of the Sun, Large Solid mass, Aravis and Mont Blanc -, 49 winter sports resorts cover all the range of the winter sports. Most prestigious, Chamonix, Megève, Morzine, Clusaz, Saint-Gervais-the-Baths receive foreign customers which find a hotel trade high level. Family, Carroz d' Arâches, Contaminate-Montjoie Them, Gets, Houches, Châtel, Samoëns, Large-Bornand the, Combloux and most contemporary, Flaine and Avoriaz, offer all of the skiables fields of great quality.
