Tourism TriRhena
The area trinational in the south of the the higher Rhine, where the borders of the Germany are, the France and the Suisse, offers a full tourist variety. This area is named Regio TriRhena , or only Regio .
Tourism TriRhena is a tourist project trinational carried out by Basle and the canton of Basle-Countryside (Swiss), Colmar and Mulhouse (France), Freiburg-in-Brisgau (Germany) and the EuroAirport Basle-Mulhouse-Freiburg-in-Brisgau.
During 15 years the tourist offices of Basle, Colmar, Mulhouse and Freiburg cooperated actively with EuroAirport Basle-Mulhouse-Freiburg. Within the framework of the program of transnational promotion Interreg II, is produced the first joint advertizing publications. In 2005 was born the tourist gate http://www.tourismtrirhena.com, fruit of the " project; The tourist gate for the Regio TriRhena ". This project, in which Basle-Countryside was allowed like member, is promoted by the European Union by means of the program Interreg III.
In theory the Regio TriRhena is associated with the names of each tourist place (the Black Forest, the Alsace and the Suisse). Currently always applies the currency " 3 countries = 1 destination" , as well as the denomination Regio TriRhena /Tourism TriRhena, so that one can create an image and a common mark.
The goal of this project is of promotionner tourism in the border region, by putting of proclamation the enormous potentiality of the zone, so much in attractions natural, cultural, gastronomical, etc the tourist offer of the Regio presents many common characteristics, as well as perfectly complementary elements, like the rich person cultural heritage and the important museums (technical museums of Mulhouse and the Musée of Art of Basle), of the habits and the traditions (gone of Christmas and carnivals), of the perfectly preserved historical centres (Colmar), of the incredible landscapes (canton of Basle-Countryside), a soft climate with much of sun, excellent gastronomy and wines, offers sporting and of wellness (Freiburg).
The project is addressed mainly to tourists with stays of short duration, visits towards cities, combined with sports activities, cultural and of the offers of tourist packages.
The cultural offer is really extraordinary, while being able to enjoy all its dimensions: Architecture, Music, Art, History, etc the offer of the museums is spectacular. Only in Basle it is possible to enjoy of more than 40 museums dedicated to various enclosures (Peinture, Sculpture, Natural history, Carnaval…). In the close canton of Basle-Countryside the Roman city of Augusta Raurica is important, and each summer takes place there an interesting Roman festival. In Colmar is essential to visit the Musée of Unterlinden, as well as the museum Bartholdi, author of famous the Statue of freedom. Á Freiburg one notices the Augustiner Museum, with works of the medieval time at the XXe century. Mulhouse is universally known with its technical museums, such as for example the museum of the car or the railroad.
Architectoniquement the Regio TriRhena presents elements of world importance, like the splendid Gothic cathedral of Freiburg, or the samples of modern architecture of Basle, with buildings of the most important architects nowadays.
Concerning the gastronomy, Freiburg and Colmar are places of privilege. Both are capitals of the wine of Baden and Alsace respectively.
The natural wealth appears quickly, with the impressive landscapes of the Black Forest, Alsace and the area of the the Jura in the canton of Basle-Countryside. Environments which enchant the directions and invite to the relaxation.
The carnival has a great importance there. It is called here, the fifth station of the year. One can enjoy the Germanic Carnaval in the towns of Freiburg and Basle. Christmas has also a particular color in the zone, with its gone of Christmas, where one can taste typical cakes of this time of the year, as well as the Glühwein.
The Web page http://www.tourismtrirhena.com plays a central role in the promotion of the Regio , by proposing all the attractions of the zone to a world public. The function of the page is supported by joint tourist publications, which are composed of a booklet with information on Regio in general and of each member of the project in particular, a calendar of events, and an end-of-term report of activities
