Tourdion
The tourdion (or tordion ) is a fast dance of couple, slightly jumped, constituting one of the elements of the Low-dance. In vogue in France at the beginning of the 16th century, the tourdion disappears before the end from the century.
Popularized by Pierre Attaignant in a collection published in 1530, the tourdion remained like Drinking song:
- When I drink light red wine
- Ami all turns, turns, turns, turns
- Aussi from now on I drink Anjou or Alpine laburnum
- Chantons and let us drink, with this bottle make the war
- Chantons and drink, the friends, thus drink!
- Ami all turns, turns, turns, turns
Thoinot Arbeau gives the first complete description of the tourdion in its Orchésographie published in 1589.
