The 93e Tour de France , length 3657,1 km, begins the Saturday the 1st er July 2006 by a prolog from 7 km in the town of Strasbourg and finishes the July 23rd with Paris.
General information
It is the first Tour post- Lance Armstrong which, after 7 years of hegemony, will not take the departure of a Turn which respectively announces very open, more especially as the Affaire Puerto has constrained the principal favorites Jan Ullrich, Ivan Basso and Francisco Mancebo, second, third and fourth at the time of the Tour de France 2005, not to present itself at the beginning the day before the Prolog. Moreover, Alexandre Vinokourov, the leader of the team Astana-Würth was also constrained to be withdrawn. An official ceremony took place on October 15th, 2007 in Madrid to declare the new champion Oscar Pereiro Sio.
Presentation of the course
All starts with the prolog in the town of Strasbourg before tackling a stage on a course in loop around Strasbourg, Alsace and Germany then to join the Netherlands with an arrival with Valkenburg and a passage by the Belgian Ardenne S, shortly after the top of the Cauberg, then follow stages of plain. This edition of the Tour de France makes speak about it already before the departure.
