The 11th Tour de France is held of the June 29th with the July 27th 1913 out of 15 stages for 5.388 km.

General information

  • general classification is again made at time. This return is final.
  • the departure of the Turn takes place with Boulogne-Billancourt; the final arrival is judged with the Parc of the Princes. For the first time, the direction of rotation is reversed: one leaves towards the west to return towards Paris by the east.
  • the edition 1913 of the Turn was that of the bounces with its batch of abandonments and accidents.
  • the team more in sight on this Lathe was that of the Peugeot cycles which raised a superb yellow jersey. In spite of the sacred union of all the other teams against this team, three of her members finish in the first three places of general classification.
  • Eugene Christophe escapes with his Thys fellow-member in the stage from Luchon, and replaces leader virtually, but it breaks its fork in Tourmalet. In the name of the principle of autonomy, Christophe is constrained to repair to him even his machine. A blacksmith proposes his assistance well to him, but Christophe refuses: “I do not have the right”. It loses all its chances in the Turn, but enters the legend.
  • Small-Breton Lucien, of the team “Automoto”, is still with the fight for the final victory with two stages of Paris, but it is constrained with the abandonment at the time of the 14th stage following a door falls. At the time of this same stage, the leader Philippe Thys also falls and bails out of a ten minutes penalty. He saves little his position of leader with general classification.
  • 200.000 Parisian makes a triumph with the runners of the Turn at the time of the final arrival in the French capital. 20.000 are massed with the Parc of the Princes, but it is a true guard of honor which honors the runners from Poissy until the accesses with the Park.
  • Average of the winner: 26,715 km/h.
