Beginnings of the TFC
Modern Toulouse FC exists since May 1970 with the foundation of US Toulouse. This club has nothing to do with the founded Toulouse FC in 1937 which sells all its players, young people included, like his right to evolve/move in D1 with the Parisian club of the Red Star in 1967. Besides Red Star will adopt a time the name of Red Star Football-Club.
After this absorption of the TFC by Red Star in 1967, Toulouse remains orphan of a high level club during three seasons. The May 25th 1970, under the impulse of Lilian Buzzichelli, president of the “Buzzichelli-Raise-Sports”, a famous corporative club of company, and with the assistance of many industrialists of the area, US Toulouse is founded. The adopted colors are the red and the white. The town hall of the city places at the disposal of the new club the enclosure of the Stadium. To secure a strong foundation, the UST absorbs the Juniors by Gascogne and the ACE Mermoz-Bonnefoy. Just Fontaine joined the club in the capacity as discoverer of talents, Jose Farias is recruited at the post of trainer-player. On the basis of all these asset, the Federation invites the UST to take part in the championship National (D2) in 1970-71.
The club is established durably in D2 and an existence of medium of table carries out to it, without feared ambition nor (3rd of the group B in 1974). In 1977, under the impulse of the new president Daniel Visentin, the name of Toulouse FC is taken again, the club takes its current colors (purple and white), and an ambitious policy of recruitment starts (Pierre Cahuzac, Robert Pintenat, Stéphan D' Angelo, Laszlo Balint, Merry Krimau, Robert Rensenbrink, Jean-Luc Vinuesa, Leon Maier, Jean-Philippe Durand, but also a young talented room, Jean-Luc Sassus) with Division 1 for objective. During the summers 1979 and 1980 are even organized two international tournaments in Stadium, seeing the victory of the Bayern of Munich, then of Saint-Etienne. The new TFC goes up quickly in power, failing in stoppings vis-a-vis Tours in 1981 (0-1, 2-2) before finding D1 the following year.
A graying perfume of Europe
During following seasons, the TFC offers a recruitment of large gauge (Bergeroo, Christophe, Domergue, Ferratge, Lacombe, Lopez, Marcico, Roussey, Soler, Stopyra, Tarantini, etc) to sit its place in D1, then to aim Europe quickly. Under the impulse of Switzerland Daniel Jeandupeux then that, more energetic, of Jacques Santini, the results follow in teeth of saw: 11th in 1983, 5th in 1984, 11th in 1985, and 4th in 1986, qualificative place for the UEFA Cup. In this competition, the TFC creates sensation by eliminating with the first turn the Naples of Diego Maradona (0-1, 1-0, t.a.b.), the Pibe de Oro missing itself the shooting with the decisive goal in Stadium in madness. The European adventure is completed with the following turn vis-a-vis the Spartak Moscow (3-1, 1-5). In 1986-87, Toulouse carries out its best season hitherto, finishing 3rd in Championship and qualifying themselves again for the UEFA. The club still packs its manpower the following year by engaging Dominique Rocheteau, and in spite of a not very glorious 13th place in D1, the TFC eliminates the Greeks from Panionios to the first turn (5-1, 1-0) before being inclined in sixteenth of finale (1-1, 0-1) vis-a-vis the Germans of the Bayer Leverkusen, future winners of the test.
The fall
The end of the year 1980 sees the TFC arriving at the end of the cycle: the great names leave the club, just as Santini whose demanding style does not achieve any more the unanimity. The decline is inexorable and Toulouse goes down in Division 2 in 1994. Throughout the years 1990, the elevator between D1 and D2 are of rule on precarious bottom of financial position. The drama bursts finally in July 2001: relegated in D2 on the ground, the TFC is seen retrogressed of an additional row for financial reasons by the National management of the Control of Management (DNCG) of the Federation. The club transforms SAOS (Public limit company with sporting object) into SASP (professional sporting Public limit company) and sets out again in National, almost of zero, saving however its professional statute and thus its training center.
Rebirth
Around the guard-captain Christophe Revault and defenders Stephan Hare and William Plum tree remained faithful to their colors, a generation of young people trained with the club endorses the purple shirt with the objective to go up in League 2 as soon as possible. They manage to go up of two divisions in two years with an almost unchanged manpower, finding League 1 in 2003. After two seasons of stabilization in L1 and an ambitious recruitment (Laurent Battles, Bryan Bergougnoux, Stephan Dalmat, Daniel Moreira, inter alia), the TFC announces to aim at a durable place in the top of the short-term table and the qualification for medium-term Europe. The season 2005-06 does not answer however the hopes, the club being quickly eliminated from all the cuts national and finishing in the bottom of the table (16th) 1 Leagues some.
Élie Baup engages at the station of trainer for three years in May 2006 to replace Erick Mombaerts, from now on at the DTN, then the president Sadran recadre the ambitions of the club with the fall and lays down the objective 2006-07 “between the eighth and the twelfth places” in Championship. After an excellent beginning of the season followed by a clear fall of mode to the autumn, TFC carries out very good performances on the phase return where it is with equality with Marseilles. The club takes down a ticket for the preliminary round of the League of the Champions by finishing 3rd season 2006-2007 at the very last day, having received two points moreover by decision of the courts after the interruption of the match against FC Nantes on May 19th, the Nantes supporters having invaded the lawn at three minutes of the end. This 3rd place is thus acquired at the time of the last day vis-a-vis the Girondins of Bordeaux after a victory 3-1 in Stadium thanks to a triplet of Swedish Johan Elmander. In same time, the other applicants, in addition to Bordeaux, are beaten, like the Racing Club of Lens to Troyes, 3-0, or are held in failure, the Stade Of Rennes, with Lille, 1-1, with the equalization of Nicolas Fauvergue with the 93ème minute which sends the Toulouse ones directly to the third preliminary round of Ligue of the Champions.
For the return out of cut of Europe and for the first match of League of the Champions of the history of the club, the TFC has misfortune to meet in August 2007 a European giant, the Liverpool FC. After a match lost 0-1 with stadium, the TFC loses fifteen days later 4-0 with Anfield in a match with one way.
The TFC is thus seen transferring in Coupe of the UEFA where he faces FK CSKA Sofia with the first turn of this same cut. The match outward journey in Stadium of Toulouse shows a virgin score, 0-0. The return match to Sofia finished on a score of 1-1 (first Bulgarian goal of Brazilian Claudinio on penalty with the 64ème minute. Toulouse equalization with the 90+6ème minute of Gignac.) The TFC is thus qualified by the rule of the goals outside and was thus versed in one of the groups qualifiers (E) for the final stage of the cut of the UEFA with four other European clubs: the Bayer Leverkusen, FC Zurich, the Sparta Prague and the Spartak Moscow.
Stadium
Téfécé plays its home matches with the Stadium Municipal of Toulouse. Built in 1937, Stadium currently has a capacity of: 35472 places and was selected for the World cup 1998. Recently, at the time of the League of the Champions, a giant clock carrying out the calculation of the days before “the League of the Champions does not make vibrate Stadium” was installed, idem for the World cup of Rugby 2007. Stadium Municipal is the largest sporting enclosure of Toulouse. It accommodates the professional team of Toulouse Football Club as well as large the matches of Rugby of the Stade Toulousain out of H Cup (Cut of Europe) or in Signal 14 (the first professional division). It also accommodated tests matches of the team of France of Rugby. It is located on the island of the Woodpigeon in the vicinity immediate of the center of Toulouse. It is a pure football stadium or of Rugby, without track of athletics around the lawn.
