Total work of art
The total work of art (of German Gesamtkunstwerk) is a Concept Esthétique appeared at the 19th century in Europe.
A total work of art is characterized by the use simultaneous of many médiums and artistic disciplines, and by the symbolic range, philosophical or metaphysics which it holds.
Richard Wagner is the first to have carried out a total work of art, in particular with Bayreuth.
The concept was transposed in an architectural current for which the integration of works of art, interior decoration, furniture, the design of spaces or the gardens cover as much importance than the building itself.
The artists of the Black Mountain College, in the Years 1950, gave to the last style the idea of total work of art by the means of the performance and the Happening S where dance, theater, music and visual arts were declined simultaneously in a single time.
