Total Trade Item Number
The Global Trade Item Number (GTIN) is a code identifying any commercial unit (unit consumer or standard unit of regrouping…) in an international and single way. This code of which the structure is defined by GS1 can take the form of codes EAN/UCC 8, UCC 12, EAN/UCC 13 or EAN/UCC 14. It was developed by GS1.
GTIN is a general term used to speak about the whole of the structures of data for the identification of the commercial articles (produced and services) of GS1. Code GTIN can be made up of 8,12,13 or 14 figures, and can be built by using four structure numerary, according to the application which will be made by it:
- GTIN-8 will be coded in EAN 8
- GTIN-12 can be coded in UPC-A, ITF-14, GS1-128
- GTIN-13 can be coded in EAN 13, ITF-14, GS1-128
- GTIN-14 can be coded in ITF-14, GS1-128
