In phylogenetic classification APG II (2003), the family of the mélanthiacées is a family of plants Monocotylédone S including/understanding a hundred Espèce S divided into 16 kind S:
- Amianthium , Chamaelirium , Chionographis , Daiswa , Helonias , Heloniopsis , Kinugasa , Melanthium , Paris , Schoenocaulon , Stenanthium , Tofieldia , Trillium , Veratrum , Xerophyllum , Ypsilandra , Zigadenus .
Certain authors also gather there the kinds placed in the family of the Narthéciacées. They are herbaceous, rhizomateuses plants or tuberoses of the cold, moderate areas or of tropical America…
One can quote in Europe Paris quadrifolia , the Parisette with four sheets.
In traditional classification of Cronquist (1981) the family does not exist and these plants are included in the Liliaceae .
