Toronto Trades Assembly
The Toronto Trades Assembly was the first Canadian Central trade-union.
The formation Toronto Trades Assembly was founded on the initiative of Toronto Cooper Union in February 1871. At that time this trade union format a special committee chagé to contact of another trade union in order to consider the formation of an organization power station which will bear the name of the power station.
The work of this committee was profitable because the March 27th 1871 several trade unions of various trades of which those of the Cordonnier S, of Boulanger S, Cigarier S and mouleurs met in Toronto in founded Ontario in order to the power station.
George Hewitt of the Cooper Union was the first president and J.S William of the union Typographique fu tdésigné secretary. One year later the power station counted 24 trade unions of trades affiliated.
This organization is famous to have organized the first demonstration of scale in North America to celebrate the workers. The April 15th 1872 the power station would have organized àq Toronto an ordered walk accompanied by 4 musical formations. 10.000 Resident of Toronto would have assity with the event.
It seems that the organization was dissoulue in January 1878, date on which one does not find any more aucne files organization
