Tornese
Tornese (1952 - 1966) is a racehorse taking part in the trotting races.
It is born in Italy from Pharaon (or Mild tobacco) and Balboa in 1952.
With Mistero, it was the largest Italian trotter before Varenne. Its prize list is of 133 victories in 229 races.
It had to face during its long career much high level adversaries, in particular Gélinotte, Jamin, Crevalcore, Icare IV, Jariolain, Newstar, Hairos II, Masina and well of others still.
Its duels with the large black Crevalcore made the history of Italian trot.
Chestnut horse like One of May, it was him also a king without crown: he ran five times the Prix of America but never gained it, finishing twice second and once third.
Except for the traditional youthful ones, it gained all the great Italian races almost, often on several occasions.
After an exhausting career, it mouru in 1966.
Sign of its immense popularity, on March 18th 2003, the Post office of San Marino emitted a series of 4 stamps in homage to the largest Italian horses. It devotes Molvedo (stamp of 11 hundreds of euros), Tornese (stamp of 15 hundred of euros), Ribot (stamp of 26 hundreds of euros) and Varenne, this last profiting from the stamp expensive, to 155 hundreds of euros.
