History
The first station of Turin was built in 1861. This station consisted of two buildings to the quite distinct functions, the Départ building, was located along via Nizza, included/understood a large hall, with circular vault in semicircular arch, decorated columns and stuccos. It accommodated ticketting and three waiting room (one by class of travellers) as well as a royal living room and the dresser. The Arrived building, located along the Sacchi way, lodged a waiting room, the Consigne with luggage, and a gallery to receive cars and hackney carriages, communicating with the other building. Between the two the Quai S extended, covered by an imposing semicircular roof (one of the first examples in metal Europe of structure in arc with semicircular arch).Thereafter of many modifications have affected this station, in particular of 1911 to 1915, and 1923 to 1928, modifying the assignment of spaces and the distribution of the services. In 1940, a building on several floors, dedicated in particular to the postal services, was built. The metal roofing was demolished and of the longitudinal shelters, out of wood, were installed on the quays.
New amendments to the Sixties and seventies contributed to deteriorate architecture of it. Only the frontage on the corso Vittorio Emmanuele keeps his architectural seal of origin.
In 2004, an important redevelopment project of the station was engaged by the company Grandi stazioni ----
