Topaz (apple)

Topaz is the name of a known Cultivar of Pomme for its resistance to the Tavelure of the apple tree. This variety is, for this reason, often planted in the Verger S followers of the Organic farming.

Origin

Topaz was diffused in 1993 by the experimental station Czech of Støížovice. It is the fruit of the crossing of Rubin (Golden Delicious × Lord Lambourne) and of Vanda (Jolana × Lord Lambourne).

It is a firm apple with the rustic aspect. It is little sweetened, very acid and is spiced.

Culture

The tree Diploïde is fairly vigorous with weak with short entrenoeuds but it is well furnished and its setting with fruit is fast. Flowering is semi-late and the Pollen is good.

Pollinating: Resi, Rajka, Discovery.

The variety supports late freezing well and has an average tendency to Alternance.

In spite of its resistance to tavelure, Topaz poses however problems of Puceron S in absence of treatment by the Neem. The variety is also fairly sensitive to the Oïdium, with the soot spots, the Gloeosporium, the Hoplocampe of the apple tree and the Carpocapse.

It is mature about on October 15th and is preserved well out of refrigerator until at the end of March.
