Top

The top is an intermediate platform in the Mât S. Placée at the end of the lower mast, it has several functions:

On the one hand to be used of fixing and reference for the stay of topmast,
On the other hand, of platform for the crew to carry out work in the mast. It is the most usual station for the Gabier S.

In old times, for the Boarding S, the gabiers then had an interesting position of shooting in the close combats. The tops were then protected, even crenelated. Moreover, the Vigie was ensured in the top of Misaine.
