Ideology and guiding principles

Tony Garnier is the author of a urban Utopie richly illustrated proposing an ideal city being based on a separation of the urban functions and activities, which it presents like memory final to the Grand Prix of Rome. He proposes an industrial Cité there 35000 inhabitants entirely in Béton armed and glass, which causes the contempt of the academicians of the jury and his French fellow-members on his return. This project, exposed in 164 precise plans until in depth of construction, influences thereafter the ideal models of urbanization of the first years of the Soviet Union. One can see reproductions of some of his boards to the urban museum Tony Garnier (district from the United States in Lyon).

This Architect Lyons emblematic, with the particularly recognizable style, conceives its units - the such Herriot hospital or the city of the United States - as a city in miniature, in the wake of the great Utopias Socialiste S of the 19th century, and being based on the principle of the garden cities which are carried out at the same time in Europe and the the United States.

Its architectural reflection is characterized by the adoption of formal and typological principles strong, the such abandonment of the courses, the use of Piloti S, the search for an inside-outside report/ratio and small islands known as opened, which inspire later architecture and town planning.
