Tonja Buford-Bailey

Tonja Buford-Bailey , born Buford the December 13rd 1970 with Dayton in the Ohio, is old a American Athlète which ran mainly on 400 m hedges. It contributed under the name of Tonja Buford until its marriage with Victor Bailey on October 28th, 1995.

It took part in the championships of the world of 1995 with Gothenburg on 400 m hedges gaining the money medal there behind its compatriot Kim Batten. Buford was very close to Batten on arrival since both beat the world records (Batten in 52" 61 and Buford in 52" 62). The preceding record was held in 52" 74 by the British Sally Gunnell since the championships of the world of 1993.

The following year, it took part in the plays of Atlanta gaining bronze behind the Jamaïcaine Deon Hemmings and Kim Batten.

In 1998, it gave rise to her son Victor Bailey, Jr. In 2001, with the championships of the world, it finished with the foot of the podium but gained the finale of the Grand Prix.

Tonja Buford-Bailey is now assistant-coach with the Université of Illinois with Urbana-Champaign.
