Tommaso Traetta
Tommaso Traetta (born the March 30th 1727 with Bitonto, close to Bari and dead the April 6th 1779 with Venice) was a Italian Compositeur of the 18th century.
Biography
Traetta leaves very young person for Naples, where he studies with the Conservatorio di Santa Maria Loreto , under the cane Lasting Nicola Porpora and Francesco.
In 1748, it finishes its studies with the academy and it teaches the song. It composes, for the churches and the convents of Naples, of the masses, vespers, the Motet S and the litanies whose manuscripts are still existing. It makes its beginnings in the opera with the 24 years age, with Farnace , created successfully with the Théâtre San Carlo of Naples which obtains a great success. In 1757 with the theater delle Lady with Rome, it gives Ezio regarded as one of its major works, then Nitteti with Reggio of Emilie, Didone abbandonata with Venice, Demofoonte with Milan and Olimpiade with Vérone.
In 1758, it is invited by the regent of the Duché of Parma, Philippe de Bourbon, and becomes choirmaster and it teaches the art of the song to the princesses of the ducal family. The same year, it gives Solimano .
Under the influence of French the Prime Minister Guillaume of Tillot, which wants to reform the melodramma seriated, Traetta takes again the booklet used by Jean-Philippe Rameau for Hippolyte and Aricie in 1733, which is altered by Innocenzo Frugoni. Work is represented in 1759 and is taken again in 1763 at the time of the marriage of the infante of Parma with the prince of Asturies. It receives from the king of Spain a pension.
The success of Ippolito ED Aricia is such as the type-setter and the librettist compose a new opera, I Tindarii , inspired of Castor and Pollux , which is represented with Parma in 1760. In 1759, Traetta, is destined for Vienna for the creation of Ifigenia in Tauride considered as one of its major works, on a booklet of Mario Coltellini, then in 1761 for that of Armida , on a booklet of the count Giacomo Durazzo, and in 1762 Sofonisba for the opera of Mannheim.
In 1765, after the death of the duke of Parma, Traetta is destined for Venice where it directs the Academy of Ospedaletto to Venice, then enters to the service of Catherine II, with Saint-Pétersbourg, of 1769 with 1775, its health weakens because of the rigor of the climate and it is with the greatest sorrow that it succeeds in being made congédier. He goes to London where he carries out the drama Germondo represented with the theater of the king who was not a success then he returns to Venice where he writes some works without finding the fire of his old productions, he dies on April 6th 1779, at 57 years.

Sacred music
With the academy of Naples, it was found a Stabat MATER with four votes and Orchestre being composed of two lessons for the mornings of Christmas and part of passion according to Saint Jean. Traetta wrote for the pupils of the academy of Ospedaletto of Venice, a Oratorio in Latin entitled Solomon .
