Toman
The toman تومان|Tomān, Toumān (possibly derived from a Turkish word ) was the Monnaie of the Iran until 1932. It was divided into 10000 Dinar S. Between 1798 and 1825, the toman was also divided into 8 Rial S, each one of them being worth 1250 dinars. In 1825, the Kran was introduced, being worth 1000 dinars or 1/10 of toman.
The term Toman (or Toumân) is already of use at the time Safavide. Toman was worth 50 Abbas (or Abbassi in the name of Shah Abbas the large one). It was rather a unit of size that a true unit of currency.
In 1932, the rial replaced the toman at the rates of 1 toman = 10 rials (I.E., 1 rial = 1 kran). Although the rial is the official currency of Iran, much of Iranians employ the toman term in the transaction daily, with the value of 1 toman = 10 rials.
In the not-official circumstances, a toman can also as well represent 1000 tomans or 1000000 tomans. The order of magnitude considered depends on the context.
