Tom and Jerry is American series of short cartoons created by the draftsmen/realizers William Hanna and Joseph Barbera and produced by MGM of 1940 with 1958. These humorous cartoons have as main characters a Chat, Tom, and a male Souris, Jerry.

The MGM produced at the time of the departure of the two organizers (which founded their own studio, Hanna Barbera Productions) other episodes of Tom and Jerry, carried out by independent studios ( Gene Deitch' S Rembrandt Films of 1961 with 1962, and Chuck Jones' Sib Tower 12 Productions of 1963 with 1967). Hanna Barbera Productions began again in 1975 the production of Tom and Jerry until 1977, and again of 1990 to 1993. Meanwhile, the cartoon was produced of 1980 to 1982 by Filmation Studios. The original series of the adventures of Tom and Jerry is famous for its many nominations and its seven victories with the Oscars.

Scenario

The Scénario of each episode is based on the unfruitful attempts at Tom to catch Jerry and the chaos which their brawls generate. The reasons which push Tom to pursue Jerry go from the hunger purely Félin E to the simple pleasure of tormenting smaller than oneself, while passing by a desire of revenge to be ridiculed. Tom however never succeeds in seizing Jerry, in particular because of the intelligence of the mouse. The series is famous for the use of gags among most destructive and violent ones ever used in a cartoon: Jerry cutting out Tom into two, Tom using all the weapons and artifices with its range (axes, guns, rifles, Dynamite, Poison) to try to assassinate Jerry.

The characters almost never speak and the action is underlined by the music, which plays in the series a big role. The musical director Scott Bradley created for the series of many complex original soundtracks, including jazz, traditional and pop

Characters

Tom is a gray domestic cat, which carries out a quiet life, that Jerry, a small brown mouse, tries to disturb and stop, causing the anger of Tom who pursues it. Although energetic and determined, Tom does not arrive at ankle of Jerry, whose inventiveness is without equal ridiculing and embarrassing its adversary. At the end of the episode, the Générique often makes a close-up on Jerry triumphing and having survived.

In his attempts to catch Jerry, Tom has often to make with the intervention other characters such as Butch, a black ordinary cat which wants to also catch the mouse to him; Spike, a Bulldog (sometimes called Killer ), vicious watchdog and Granny-Two-Shoes (literally “Granny-Two-Shoes”), the owner of Tom, who pursues Tom with a brush when it makes silly things. At the end of the Years 1940, Jerry adopts a small gray mouse Nibbles (or Tuffy ). During Years 1950, Spike is represented with a son, Tyke , which leads the dog to soften a little bit, and which gives rise to a series derived from short duration, Spike and Tyke .

Although several of the supporting characters speak (in particular Granny-Two-Shoes), Tom and Jerry generally do not speak, even if they are expressed by various noises (or songs, like that of Tom trying to make the court with cat-like young ladies). The realizer William Hanna is at the origin of the majority of the Bruitage S for the two characters.
