Tom Sawyer Island

Tom Sawyer Island is an island-attraction of the Disney parks located in the middle of the river Rivers off America located in the countries of Frontierland (Westernland with Tokyo Disneyland). The island comprises several references to the character of Mark Twain according to the news the Adventures of Tom Sawyer and other elements of the culture of the American west since banks of the the Mississippi until the limits of the conquest of the American west.

Attractions

Only the parks Disneyland, Magic Kingdom and Tokyo Disneyland have this island-attraction. It was replaced with:

Disneyland

The island includes/understands the Fort Wilderness , a fort in log built in homage to the conquest of the west and being used as zone of plays for the children. It is accessible only by small boats controlled by the Disney employees. When the visitors of Disneyland embark on the Sailing Ship Columbia or the Mark Twain Riverboat which turn around the island, they could observe on the septentrional point a cottage (inaccessible and invisile differently) of which the roof flaring with the passage of the ship. This special effect was withdrawn in the years 1990 in spite of the protests.

Attraction did not see much change since its opening. In 1992, the southern point of the island was transformed to accommodate a pyrotechnical spectacle of 100 million $, Fantasmic! given on banks of the Rivers off America .

Since 2002, attraction saw however its attractions changed in order to guarantee more safety. Various incidents had sullied the history with the park mainly which had the period of management of Paul Pressler. One will be able to note rusted factitious rifles or not maintained mobile stones.

Description

The arrival on the island is done by a pontoon located on the southern point, on western bank. The visitor finds himself vis-a-vis the imposing construction added in 1992 and being used as scene with the spectacle Fantasmic!. A way circumvents the scene while skirting bank while an other crosses the island. In the center of this part of the island is the tree of Tom ( Tom Sawyer' S Treehouse ) perched on the hill of Indians ( Indian Hill ).

At the end of the road crossing the island, on Eastern bank and behind the building is the paddle mill Old Mill with its foot the pontoon of Tom ( Tom' S Landing ). Just in north after having to span a river running since the top of Indian Hill, another pontoon would be that being used for fishing nested in the handle of the Poisson-chat ( Catfish' S Cove ). With interior of the island hides the caves Injun Joe' S Cave .

While still going up banks, the visitor arrives in the handle of the smuggler ( Smuggler' S Cove ). He can then either take the floating bridge ( Pontoon Bridge ) and cross towards north, or to borrow a suspended bridge ( Supsension Bridge ) carrying out it towards Indian Hill and the tree of Tom, or to skirt the handle towards north.

While continuing towards north, the visitor finds himself in the center of the island, a narrow rock zone. It comprises several plays: Castle Rock'n'roll , Teeter-Tooter Rock'n'roll an unstable rock, Ambush Rock'n'roll , Castle Dungeon , Merry-Go-Round Rock'n'roll , Pirate' S Den .

Then the island widens again. A way in the west leads to the ponoton Huckleberry Finn ( Huck' S landing ) at the height then Wilderness. It contains some decorations of Far West and one of the turns shelters false rifles of which it was possible to draw. The strong one was closed in 2001 for safety reasons. A young girl had lost a finger there. The other way makes it possible to join the secret exit of the fort, condemned with the fort.

The part more in north of the island is not accessible and belongs to the Indians (a peace treaty would be the cause). A hut on fire is mentioned on the plans and is visible since the boats sailing on the river. The system of fire to propane was also condemned to him in 2001.

Magic Kingdom

With the difference of its colleagues, the island is not only one holding, it consists of two small islands connected by a floating bridge. It includes/understands it-also many places: dark passages, the caves Injun Joe' S Undermines , the old mine Magnetic Mystery Mine , a suspended bridge, a floating bridge, a point of observation and the fort of log Fort Langhorn .

This fort was named Fort Sam Clemens until 1996 when the film of Disney Tom and Huck left in room. In this film the strong one bears the name of Fort Langhorn , and that of the island was thus renamed same manner. The two names are inspired by the true name of Mark Twain, Samuel Langhorn Clemens.

The island includes/understands a small restaurant named The Canteen and located close to the fort.
