Tom Morello

Thomas Baptist Morello or more simply Tom Morello (born the May 30th 1964) is a American Guitariste , credit in the groups Audioslave and Rage Against the Machine. It also carries out a solo project under the pseudonym of The Nightwatchman. He is in particular recognized for his very technical play and his inventive use of the effects.

In a more anecdotic way, Tom Morello is 26e classification of the magazine Rolling Stone of the 100 Greatest Guitarists off All Time .

Childhood

Thomas Baptist Morello was born with New York and grew in Illinois. His/her mother, Mary Morello, is founder of Parents For Rock and Rap, who is against the censure. His/her father took share, at the sides of Mau-Mau, the fight against the British colonists with the Kenya. The uncle of Tom, Jomo Kenyatta, was to him the first elected president of Kenya. Tom Morello has a diploma in political sciences, which it obtained in 1986 at the university of Harvard. He works then in “the machine” as assistant with the governor, posts that he leaves well rather quickly.

He first of all attended the elementary school of Libertyville where he will be done insulted by an young girl by treating it of negro. Its vision is thus disturbed and it is his/her mother who spoke to him about Malcolm X. According to the history, the same young girl repeated her insults and, as much verbal than physical, Tom will react by a violent one return. This experiment undoubtedly pushed it has to be interested more in the policy and the injustices.

Musical career

Beginnings

Tom Morello beginning his career within the group Lock Up, it takes part in the album " Something Bitchin This Way Come" (1989).

Rage Against the Machine

Tom Morello makes known himself thanks to Rage Against The Machine which was a fulgurating success.

Audioslave

After Of Rocha Rage Against the Machine, the remainder of the group left (Tom Morello, Tim Commerford and Brad Wilk) decides “jammer” with the former singer of Soundgarden, Chris Cornell following a suggestion of the producer Rick Rubin. The group is called first once Civilian , finally changed into Audioslave. It will be followed from there then nearly three albums left with the group.

Solos projects

Morello is also cofounder of Axis off Justice (with Serj Tankian, singer of System off has down), a non-profit-making organization and a militant radio program, which was accompanied by concerts gathering of many artists in the months which preceded the American electoral campaign by 2004 to rise against the policy of George W. Bush. Inspired by works of Che Guevara, George Orwell and Mumia Abu-Jamal enter others, the organization works since its creation on the improvement of the rights of the immigrants like on the abolition of the capital punishment throughout the world.

Tom Morello will also leave his album solo on April 24th, 2007, naming One Man Revolution. Morello also speaks about live in Coachella Valley Arts & Music Festival (27- April 29th) in California with its former assistants but he insists well “it is right a concert!” because its principal project is The Nightwatchman.

Technique

It is famous to use many effects on its electric guitar. Thanks to a use of its various pedals of effects (in particular the whammy), it is able to imitate a sound of scratch on vinyl for example. It uses also its selector of microphone to be able to tackle the notes without médiator. Contrary to the majority of the other metal guitarists, Morello uses a sound of guitar relatively little saturated.

He was elected for the 4th consecutive time like better guitarist with the 24e “Annual California Music Awards”.
