Tom Morel

Théodose Morel known as " Tom Morel" (born the 1915 with Lyon, in the the Rhone - died the March 9th 1944 with Entremont, in Haute-Savoie) the vocation of the military trade had very early and was forged a high idea of the Officer. It prepares the contest with Holy-Genevieve. It enters to Saint-Cyr military school in 1935 and chooses at its exit the 27 {{E}} B.C.A. with Annecy. It orders there with brilliance the Section of Scout-Skiers.

During the program of 1940, as of the entry in war of Italy on June 12th, it fights with eagerness and fact proof of the capacities of a big boss. Quoted with the order of Division, it continues its engagements and obtains the Military Cross. It is made Chevalier of the Legion of Honor. It is then old only 24 years.

Appointed instructor with Saint-Cyr military school in 1941, it encourages its pupils implicitly to enter the Résistance, where it enters itself in December 1942.

January 31st, 1944, the maquis of Haute-Savoie gather on the Plateau of Glières, under its command. It is illustrated there by its acts and its high design of the officer; it is given without counting, worrying about the men first of all. Respected by its enemies, liked by its men, it is killed by the Commander Lefevre, Chief of Staff of G.M.R., after having taken its PC by storm. November 5th, 1944, the Général de Gaulle decrees to him on a purely posthumous basis the Croix of the Release. Its currency: “To live free or die” .

In its honor, the 174e promotion of the military special École of Saint-Cyr military school was baptized Lieutenant Tom Morel .
