Tom Boonen
Tom Boonen is a Belgian cyclist born on October 15th, 1980 with Mol, measuring 1,92 m for 80 kg. Professional since 2002, he is specialist in the sprint S of end of the road and of the races Pavé be.
Biography
Tom Boonen became professional cyclist within US the team Postal in 2002. He bores as of his first year at the professionals by being classified third of Paris-Roubaix. He then becomes a hope for the Belgium, which sees in him a future great champion.He is recruited as of the following year by Quick Step, breaking his contract with the US Postal one. By glanant 19 victories in 2004, it confirms its good provisions for the massive sprints by gaining in particular 2 stages of the Tour de France (of which the last on the Fields-Élysées), and for traditional the flandriennes by overriding the Grand Prix E3 and Ghent-Wevelgem.
In 2005, it carries out its best season by carrying out the rare one doubled Tour of Flandres/Paris-Roubaix, while being essential on the championships of the world on road after having gained 2 stages of the Tour de France 2005. He is elected Vélo of world Gold in 2005.
In 2006, it again gains the Tour of Flandres, carrying out the first doubled since 1973. It fails in Paris-Roubaix, crossing the finishing line in 5th position. It is however promoted 2nd following the downgrading of Leif Hoste, Peter Van Petegem and Vladimir Gusev.
On the Tour de France, it carries the yellow jersey during four days without however gaining stage, and is constrained with the abandonment for respiratory problems during the stage leading to Alpe d' Huez. It finishes the season in the second place of the ProTour.
In 2007, it gains the points score of the Tour de France. It also gains the Grand Prix E3 for the 4th consecutive time.
