Tolmin ( Italian Tolmino in , German Tolmein in ) is at the same time a city and a municipality ( občina ) of Slovenia, located at Western l extremity of the country, on the river Isonzo.

The municipality is populated of 12  198 inhabitants for a surface of 381.5 km ².

The city contains a small Italian linguistic minority which remained in spite of the passage of the city to the Yugoslavia in 1947.
