Tolia Nikiprowetzky

Tolia Nikiprowetzky (Féodosia, the Crimea, September 25th 1916 - Paris, May 5th 1997) is a French type-setter of Russian origin.

Biography

It is with Marseilles where his/her parents arrive into 1923 that Nikiprowetzky begins its musical studies with the Academy.

In 1937, it settles in Paris where it works with Simone Plé-Caussade (running away and counterpoint) and Louis Laloy (history of the music).

After the war, he works with Rene Leibowitz.

Between 1950 and 1955, it leaves to the Morocco where it works with the musical direction of Radio-Morocco .

Returned to France, it enters with the SORAFORM (future OCORA) and continuous to be interested in the African traditional music. It carries out other missions in Africa of collection and studies for this organization.

Influenced by the modal writing, Nikiprowetzky used thereafter the serial technique and was interested in the electronic music and concrete.
