Tokyo mew mew

Tokyo Mew Mew (東京ミュウミュウ Tōkyō Myū Myū) is a Shōjo manga of the dessinatrice Mia Ikumi and the scenario writer Reiko Yoshida, published for the first time at the Japan in 2001 in the magazine Nakayoshi shōjo then compiled in Tankobon published by Kodansha. It comprises 7 volumes. It was also adapted in Anime, was created by Studio Pierrot and was diffused on Aichi Television Broadcasting. The animated series account 52 episodes.

The series is published in France by Pika Edition.

It also comprises a continuation, Tokyo Mew mew With the Mode, which was not published yet in France.

The father of Elliott Grant (Ryo Shirogane) was an eminent archeologist who worked one day on the skeleton of a creature belonging has an old civilization having lived on the Earth 300 million year ago. Analyzes

Tokyo Mew mew is the perfect example of the style manga Magical girls and points out much Sailor Moon. It is a manga pleasant to read: graphics are very neat, principal heroins, very beautiful. Who more is, it does not have less than three admirors in addition to Masaya.

The personalities of the characters also are very stereotyped (see summarized low): Minto, spoiled and lazy wealthy heiress, Retasu, the timid mouse of library, Kisshu, the pervert in love… on this side, Mia Ikumi and Reiko Yoshida did not seek to be original.

One can also note the presence of a message against the pollution of the Earth. This message rather subliminal is present when Cinyclons denounce the fact that the Ground is polluted by the human ones and that they want to kill the mankind precisely to protect it and start again to zero.

Characters

The names and Japanese first names of the characters are often food names having the representative color of the named character.

Ichigo Momomiya (Zoey Hanson)

Note: Ichigo means " fraise" in Japanese Momo means " peche" in Japanese Miya means " a saint" place; in Japanese Ichigo Momomiya (, 12 years), the heroin of the manga, is first Mew mew with being discovered. Its DNA amalgamated with that of the wildcat of Iriomote. It is a sharp and enjouée teenager, who is made more friends than enemies (and even its enemies do not hate it as much as that…). For it, his/her friends count much and nothing is worth team work. More important, it is very in love with Masaya Aoyama, the most beautiful boy of the school, and becomes easily embarrassed vis-a-vis him…

She constantly endeavors to reconcile her super-heroin life with her life of schoolgirl, but nothing is difficult any more. Not only it must guide Mew mews and save the world of the aliens, but moreover, it must repress its small cat-like tendencies… when it is nervous, its ears of cat spout out, which is hardly practical because it is always nervous with Masaya.Mais with the wire of the time of other boys will conquer his heart, which badly does not make a problem in sight… Moreover, it has an insatiable appetite for fish, lands constantly on its legs and cannot prevent oneself from continuing the butterflies when it sees some… a little later in the history when it is afraid it is transformed into cat and becomes again normal when it is embraced.

The color of Ichigo is the red; when it is transformed into Mew Mew, its hair and its eyes become pink, whereas they are normally brown. Its ears and its tail of cat appear rather black. Its mark is on its leg.

Mint Aizawa (Corina Dujardin)

Note: Minto is the Japanese pronunciation of " Minto" (mint, in English)

Minto Aizawa (, 14 years) is second Mew mew discovered: it amalgamated with a bird, blue Lori. Its color is blue. It is a rich person child, spoiled and very snob, who often assembles the head with Ichigo, because it so to speak never works with the Coffee Mew mew (it must always stop for her the afternoon). However, in spite of its great outdoors, it is due to her friends - it is just too proud to show it. It has a Seiji older brother, but sees it only seldom, as his/her parents who are always occupied. It is also a very talented ballerina.

When it becomes Mew Minto, of the small wings and a tail pushes to him, and its hair becomes of a more luminous blue.

Minto has a true veneration for Zakuro and is regarded as its larger fan; it calls it Zakuro-onee-sama (Zakuro big sister). Its mark is on its back. In Mew mew power Corina Dujardin/Bucksworth at 16 years.

Letasu Midorikawa (Bridget Verdant)

Note: Retasu means " Lettuce " in Japanese.

Retasu Midorikawa (, 14 years), 3rd Mew mew, has the DNA of a apterous Marsouin, a rare species of Marine mammal near to the Dauphin. One calls also this Sunaméri animal. However, in spite of that, it forever learned how to swim, which generates in it an important complex. It is a very timid and sensitive teenager, who always hesitates to take the first step - it is also of an incredible awkwardness and broke several tens of plates to the Coffee Mew mew. It singularly missed confidence in it, before meeting Mew mews. To have true friends allowed him to be affirmed, although it is not very sure yet of it.

It is also in love with Ryo Shirogane, which, knowing its sensitivity, is always very understanding in its connection. But it tests feelings for Ichigo secretly and testifies in Retasu only to the affection.

Its color is the green; when it changes, its hair becomes more luminous and its glasses disappear. Its mark is on the level of its chest.

Pudding Fong (Kikki Benjamin)

Pudding means kind of Japanese blank.

Liquid manure Fong, 4th Mew mew, is young girl a 9 year old malicious and overflowing of energy, which amalgamated with a monkey, the Tamarin lion with gilded head! It is unceasingly agitated and tries the most insane acrobatics. Black-headed gull and enjouée, it is also youngest of Mew mew.

Zakuro Fujiwara (Estelle Renee Roberts)

Note: Zakuro means “grenade”

Zakuro Fujiwara () is the elder one of Mew mew (14 years). It amalgamated with a Loup gray. It is a very famous singer, actress and top model; she travelled everywhere throughout the world and usually speaks several languages. Vis-a-vis the fans, it posts a cordial personality and sympathetic nerve; but actually, it is an young girl very solitary, contained on itself, and rather cold with its entourage. She shows much wisdom and of intelligence but never shows with the others direct affection.

At the beginning, Zakuro wants nothing to have to make with Mew mews, preferring to remain alone; it will take time for the girls to convince it to join them. It is l´idole and the confidante of Minto which calls it onee-sama , her big sister. Although it remains rather discrete within the team, it gives invaluable councils to her friends.

Its color is the purple one: when it becomes Mew Zakuro, of the ears and a tail of wolf pushes to him. Its mark is on its navel.

Boys

Masaya Aoyama (Mark)

Ao wants to say " bleu" in Japanese Yama wants to say " mont" in Japanese

Masaya Aoyama (), is the most popular boy of the college of Ichigo and the object of its affection. It is insane in love with him and as well as possible tries to hide its super-heroin life to him. Beautiful, sympathetic nerve, understanding, Masaya are most adorable of the teenagers! It feels very concerned by the fate of the environment. It is moreover one champion in martial arts (reason of its celebrity). It enormously holds in Ichigo in spite of its control a little - even very - bizarre.

Masaya is also the Knight of Azure and Deep Blue, it has in its body these 2 spirits. Since its birth the spirit of Masaya dominated and thus one sees the character of Masaya, when Ichigo is in danger, the force of the Blue Lord releases and gives rise to the Knight of Azure. But then when the rage of Deep Blue chokes the spirit of Masaya, one sees then Deep Blue leaving the spirit of Masaya in a deep sleep.

Ryo Shirogane (Elliot Grant)

Ryo Shirogane () is one of the creators of the project Mew mew. He knows the existence of Chiméranimaux (Prédasites) thanks to work of his father, who studied them. His/her parents were killed by one two and it since continued their research with Keiichiro. He wanted at the beginning to test the project Mew mew on animals, but an unforeseen earthquake deviated its shooting and to the place, he aimed at the five girls who form now Tokyo Mew mew.

Ryo is a rather cynical and sarcastic young man, in particular with Ichigo, which he often has fun to put in anger - in fact, he is secretly in love with it. But it has a good bottom. It does not make particular strains of sympathy with the girls, except with Retasu, of which it sees well that it needs support and encouragements.

Keiichiro Akasaka (Wesley J. Coolridge III)

Keiichiro Akasaka (), the partner of Ryo, is one of the men at the origin of the project Mew mew. He was the assistant of the father of Ryo and knew his work well. He continued his research when he died. When Mew mew were chosen, it offered to them an use of waitress to the Coffee Mew mew, the base of their operations.

Keiichiro is a true gentleman, the symbol of the kindness and courtesy; excellent manners and the girls like it much have… He never hesitates to lavish assistance, councils, and encouragements in Mew mews. He is very intelligent and has much creativity.

In Mew mew power and Tokyo Mew mew Wesley. J. Coolridge.III or Keichiro Asakasa at 21 years.

Extraterrestrial

Kisshu (Dren)

Kisshu/Quiche/Kish are the first alien to be appeared in the manga. It is one of the henchmen of Deep Blue, the mysterious entity which seeks to adapt the Earth. It with the ability to make amalgamate extraterrestrial bacteria with animals or the human ones, to form Chiméranimaux, which it orders from its own way.

Kisshu is very possessive and narquois, it is interested of very close in Ichigo - the first time that it meets it, he spouts out nowhere to embrace it and then thanks it for the kiss! It seems at the beginning to regard it as a nice toy with which to have fun, but later, it discovers that it fell in love with it - what makes it still more vindicatory than formerly. But it should be admitted that it is nevertheless super nice (in the manga and in animates).

In Mew mew power Dren at 16 years alor that in Tokyo Mew mew it is 15 years old.

Feeds (Sardon)

Feeds is elder disciples of Deep Blue; it appears later in the history, at the same time as Tart. It was sent to lend hand-strong to Kish. It is wisest of the three aliens, and most intelligent; cold and reserved, it often does not smile. He is completely devoted to Deep Blue and obeys blindly to him. He likes to form well built strategies.

Feeds disapproves much the attitude of Kisshu, which tends to sink a little too ahead, but it comes to its help each time it needs. It also appears to test feelings in love confused enough for Letasu.

In Mew mew power Sardon at 18 years as in Tokyo Mew mew.

Taruto (Tarb)

Taruto, or Taart, is youngest of the aliens. It adopts an attitude of horrible brat: it is completely immature, and not really frightening. In fact, it makes more row than another thing. He hates to be been unaware of, be to treat washout and likes to type on the nerves of everyone. He handles also botanical art (he handles the plants).

Taruto has funny relation - more or less friendly - with Purin, which always tries to bind friendship with him and calls it his/her friend. But it pushes back it all the time (inevitably, it is not kind to admit that it feels affection for whoever). Pudding calls it " Tartine".

In Mew mew power Tarb at 12 years whereas dansTokyo Mew mew it of to 10.

Deep Blue (Blue Lord)

Deep Blue is the chief of the extraterrestrial ones. It is a very mysterious character, from which one distinguishes only the form; it is known only that its ultimate goal is to control the Earth. He promised with the aliens to enable them to live on planet once they would have conquered it.

Others

Masha or R-2000 (Mini Mew)

R2000 alias Masha is a tiny rather nice robot, created by Ryo. It is equipped with sensory sensors which enable him to detect the presence of Chiméranimaux. It is a little the mascot of Tokyo Mew mew. And the only thing that it is to say it is <>

the knight of azure (blue knight)

It is a strange extraterrestrial knight in blue coat which appears a little later in the history; each time Ichigo is in danger, it emerges from nowhere to save it, and disappears then. It is in love with Ichigo. She thinks that it is about Ryo.

Animate

Animated the Tokyo Mew mew took many freedoms with the manga: it respected only the basic facts, but for the details, it enormously derived from the original history. For example, places and circumstances of each event (ex: in the manga, Zakuro faces Chiméras Corbeaux in a studio of turning. In animated, it is in a church). He speaks also much more of the other characters - one sees for example the families of Minto and Retasu, the childhood of Zakuro is briefly mentioned. Whole episodes are devoted to the characters, which catches up with the fact that Ichigo is unceasingly alone under the projectors.

Animated also especially the lovesong deepens: in the manga, some indices tend to show that Ryo likes Retasu, but in the series it is openly posted that she likes - she embraces it even in episode 41. Feeds develops also feelings for it. Kisshu is even more obsessional towards Ichigo and, in the last episodes, plank even the madness. And the relation between Minto and Zakuro seems per moments to exceed the simple friendship.

There are also some changes on physical appearance: for example, Zakuro does not have the same hairstyle, and Feeds has the purple hair, whereas in the manga it is fair.

The oddment also was appreciably modified.

Spoilers : Taruto lines up side of Mew mews and is killed by Pai; Itself feeds is sacrificed to save them thanks to Retasu; also, the aliens set out again afterwards on their planet without saying really goodbye to Mew mews; the passage where Purin embraces Taruto is thus not included.

Episodes Mew Mew Power

Beginning of the year 2005,4Kids Entertainement started to diffuse on YTV the first season of the series, renamed “Mew Mew Power”. It is this version which was diffused throughout the world and was translated into different languages.

Mew Mew Power is very different from animated original. 4Kids Entertainement removed whole passages of episodes, récrit the dialogs, modified the nouns of the characters and the weapons and attacks of Mew Mews, put credits and different songs. It was a question at one time to re-elect the series Hollywood Mew Mew , but the company finally decided for Mew Mew Power .

4Kids sought to eliminate any trace from Japanese culture of the series - names, honorary, places, traditions, writing - and the action thus takes place in an American city (it is not specified which). Chiméranimaux were renamed Prédasites and the aliens received a name of race: Cyniclons . Each Mew Mew was also “old”: Zoey, Corina and Bridget have 16 years and Estelle 17

The personalities of the characters are also a little different: Estelle, for example, is more sarcastic and cruel that Zakuro, Bridget is a genius whereas Retasu is not that an average pupil, and Dren is much less perverse than Kisshu (some of its words were considered shocking by the company too much to be put in the series. )
