Origin of the name of the group

In many interviews the members of the group explained the choice of their name. They wished that their name reflects a dynamic big city, and regarding Tōkyō as ignored general public, they decided to adopt it (Tōkyō is written in German from where C-W communication different from the French name). To that, they added the word Hotel who, in their eyes, is a symbol of a group who succeeds and thus made rounds, energy of city downtown and hotel in hotel.

They however declared, in an interview of Rock Mag' , that the name of the group came simply owing to the fact that they adored the town of Tokyo and that they had liked much to sleep with the hotel during the rounds of Devilish .

Beginning of success

Topics approached and perception

One can observe in their music and their texts, but more especially their clips, of many influences Rock. Bill Kaulitz, like sometimes his/her Tom brother, write the songs of the group. On their side, Gustav, Georg and Tom compose the musics. The songs generally approach topics like experiments of the life. There is thus a setting in opposition between their striking texts and their still childish appearance.

The topics present in their songs are mainly the Divorce, the Vie after death, disappointment in love, loneliness, the Suicide, etc

The reception of Tokio Hotel by the public

In the rock'n'roll medium, as of the first months of its arrival on the European music channels, Tokio Hotel received a reception mitigated on behalf of criticisms. So certain teenagers and other young adults find an attraction to him, others make use of the name of the group like good joke, following the example destiny of Kyo, a few years ago. The mainly formulated reproaches are:
  • commercial aimings of a group very quickly mediatized;
  • the brittleness of the rock'n'roll composition, seen as edulcorated;

  • too great mediatization of the Kaulitz twins;

  • the aggressif marketing developed by their producers with derivative products and the translation of their English albums.

  • the fact of saying that the group was created to only sell, whereas they knew each other already front (following the example some Boys band S).

  • the hysterical attitude many groupies during the concerts
