Tokat

Tokat is a town of Turkey, Préfecture of the Province of the same name.

Monuments

The most important monument of Tokat is the Othoman citadel which counts 28 turns, founded on a rock hill giving on the city, the Mosquée of Garipler dating at the 12th century and the mosque of Ali Pasa 16th century.

One of the most beautiful buildings of Tokat is Gök Medrese (Pervane Bey Darussifasi) which was built in 1270. Originally school of Theology, it is now converted into Musée, accommodating the archaeological discoveries of the sector.

Latifoglu Konak, old Othoman house, is a chief of work of Baroque architecture. This historical building was renovated and converted into small museum. Most of the pieces of furniture of the kitchen, study, reception room, bathrooms and toilets, room to be slept, room of Master and Harem are of origin.

The city also comprises a university, the Gaziosmanpaşa Üniversitesi , founded in 1992 and baptized name of a local hero, Gazi Osman Paşa .
