Toijala

Toijala is a old municipality and old city of the south-west of the Finland. It is located at the south the area Pirkanmaa, on southernmost bank of large the lake Vanajavesi.

It owes its creation and its development á the construction of the ways of railroad Helsinki - Tampere and Turku - Toijala. The two ways meet at this place in 1876 and since then Toijala is one of the most important rail junctions of the country. The small village knows a considerable growth of its industry and is separated from the parish of Akaa in 1932. In 2007, the name of Akaa will be given to the honor, Toijala amalgamating with its immediate neighbor Viiala to form the new town of Akaa.

The city preserves today varied industries. It has in particular the largest factory of Mämmi in the world, argument not stripped of humor because this food is practically consumed only in Finland (paste of Malt and flour of Seigle to the aspect noirâtre generally consumed with Easter). The city saw being born in particular the doctor Arvo Ylppö and the musician Aki Sirkesalo.

Toijala is the smallest commune of the area. It is surrounded by Kylmäkoski in the west, Viiala in the North-West, Valkeakoski in the North-East and finally Kalvola in south-east (Kanta-Häme). By the road (the highway n°3 - E12 crosses the commune) Helsinki is to 150 km, Tampere to 40 km and Turku to 120 km.
