Tohono O\' odham
Tohono O' odham constitute a tribe Amerindian south-west of the the United States. The Conquistador be initially called them Papago' . They resided then in the Désert of Sonora. Moreover their name means “people of the desert”. Today, the greatest reserve is located between Tucson and Ajo. They share linguistic characteristics with the Akimel O' odham (“People of the river”), whose territory is just in the south of Phoenix, along the Gila River. The origin of Tohono O' odham remains subjected to controversy: certain specialists think that they migrated towards north, approximately 300 years ago; others affirm that they are the descendants of the Hohokam S, which built Casa Large. The Spanish franciscains christianized of force Tohono O' odham: the latter helped them to build the Mission San Xavier del Bac, at the end of the 18th century. But acculturation was not done without resistance and the colonists were confronted with several revolts during XVIIe and XVIIIe centuries.
