Togoville

Togoville is a small village of the maritime area of the Togo, which is located close to the Lac Togo.

One discovers there the Notre Dame cathedral of the Lake Togo which was built in 1910, decorated with paintings with African saints, a statue of Notre-Dame of the Lac Togo, the holy owner of the village.

One observes there the reproduction of the boat on which the Virgin Mary appeared on the lake in 1940.

Togoville is also a village rich in traditions and with the historical past. The village, which gave its name to the country, means originally " city; beyond the falaise" in language ewe (and not " city; beyond the rivière" , usually made error). It is indeed located at the edge of a lagoon far from deep, which has as a name lake Togo, which caused to induce much inhabitants in error on the origin of the word " togo".

The visitors can discover the house of the descendant of the king Mlapa who signed with Nachtigal the treaty founding German protectorate on Togo.

Togoville is also famous as a center of the religious practices Animiste S. the excessively pious people arrive of all the south of Togo to study and practice their religion. One sees fetishes and sculptures of wood in front of much of houses.
