The toes , normally five per foot, are appendices of the human foot, and more generally of the Primate S. They correspond to the Doigt S of the Main without bearing the same particular names except for the “ small orteil ” and of the “ large orteil ” which, contrary to the inch, its counterpart, is not easily opposable to the four others. Scientists met to establish names has each toe. The result is that the true name of the toes is first, second, third, fourth and fifth toe, on the basis of the " large orteil" !
Étymologiquement, the word “toe” derives by popular formation from the Latin word articulus , which also gave “article”.
The toes are made of three phalange S, except the big toe which counts only two of them.
