Tobias Stimmer

Tobias Stimmer (April 7th 1539 with Schaffhouse, Swiss - January 4th 1584 with Strasbourg, Alsace) was a draftsman and a painter of Swiss origin

Its work

Very present in the towns of Schaffhouse, Strasbourg and Baden-Baden, Portraitist, it was also at the origin of murals and a great number of engravings (scenes biblical, allegories,…) who were published under the direction of with Francfort-sur-le-Main.

Stimmer was one of the pupils of Hans Holbein the Young person but developed his own style of Maniérisme.

Its artistic work rests especially on murals like on portraits. It remains, today inter alia its mural heading " House zum Ritter" with Schaffhausen although that Ci must be restored. But its most significant work remains without any doubt its paintings on the astronomical clock of Strasbourg
