User Friendly is a Cartoon in line day laborer, carried out by J.D. Frazer under the pseudonym d'" Illiad". Through jokes on the technology and of an intensive use of humor Geek, the bands tell the life of the team of a small supplier of fictitious access Internet, Columbia Internet. The first board appeared on November 17th, 1997.

Today, User Friendly is published in some American newspapers.

At the end them the Nineties, To use Friendly and Sluggy Freelance exchanged two of their characters: A.J and Torg.

In 2000, some boards of the Webcomic Waiting For Bob allow the characters of this last, to visit Columbia Internet to require designer of them and to lodge the advertizing site on their new product, " Caf".

The bands generally form part of the same history published over several days, and consequently, the bands are drawn in advance. The bands of Sunday are an exception because they are drawn for immediate publication, breaking with the history in progress. The band of Sunday is based on events in progress or recent and is colors, unlike the bands day laborers of the other days of the week.

Periodically, of the " nag-strips" appear. They are special bands drawn with a promotional aim. These bands appear for one 30 seconds duration before rocking towards the band of the day. They aim introducing advertizing executives or at asking gifts, in a way presented by the characters created by Illiad.

A.J. Garrett

First appearance on November 17th, 1997.

A.J. Garrett is the creative type of the company, dealing with conceiving and maintaining their Internet sites. As a designer Web, it is taken out of clippers by people of the engineering service and the service marketing. That means that nobody hates it, but that everyone is played of him of time to others. A.J is timid and sensitive, adores the video games and is like a big brother for Dust Puppy.

It left with Miranda during a time, but they broke on a misunderstanding. They remained however attracted one by the other and recovered on September 16th, 2005 together.

The Chief

First appearance on November 19th, 1997.

The Chief ( the Chief, in French) is the CEO of Columbia Internet. Leader without fear of the engineering teams and commercial, it is the only calm and clear-sighted thinking head of the company. It would not be it besides probably if it knew what really occurs in its company.

Illiad based the character on his former owner:

“ The Chief is based one my business mentor. He was the vice president that I reported to back in the day. The Chief, like my mentor, is tall (!) and thin and sports has bushy boxing ring around has bald crown, more has very thick moustache. ”

Dust Puppy

First appearance on December 3rd, 1997.

Dust Puppy ( pup of dust in French) was born in a data-processing Serveur from a combination from Poussière, fibers quantum and events. It resembles a ball of dust and fibers, with eyes, feet and occasionally a smile full with teeth. It disappeared temporarily from the bands from January 6th to 10th 1998 after having been accidentally puffed up with the compressed air whereas it slept in a dusty waiter.

Although absolutely ingenuous, Dust Puppy is an excellent player of Quake, playing its first match at dead only four days after its first appearance in the band (i.e. on December 7th, 1997), and beating Zock, the god with Quake, on February 13rd, 1998. Dust Puppy also created the named artificial intelligence Erwin.

Put aside Stef and Crud Puppy, all the other characters of the comics like Dust Puppy.

Dust Puppy was described thus, in the band of January 17th, 1998:

“ I walk around looking shorts, and sleep in the servers, and give advice to people who need it and sometimes I even play Quake. ”

Erwin

First appearance on January 25th, 1998.

Erwin is a Artificial intelligence (IA) very advanced which resides some share on the network. It was created during the night during an experiment on the Artificial intelligence carried out by Dust Puppy which was bored somewhat. Erwin is written in COBOL, because of a bet lost by Dust Puppy. Erwin makes a success of the Test of Turing and has a certain direction of humor. He is expert in all the subjects covered by the World Wide Web, such as the visions of Elvis and the conspiracies extraterrestrial.

He was named Erwin on January 28th, 1998.

In the beginning, Erwin occupied a traditional computer of type “monitor and keyboard” with an architecture x86, but it resided thereafter in a iMac, Palm III, Coleco Adam on Mir, Furby, a nuclear guidance system of missile, a SGI O2, a Hewlett-Packard computer (with its reversed Polish notation), a construction industry Lego Mindstorms, Tamagotchi, Segway, a exo-skeleton Mech-Warrior Timber Wolf, and in toilets equipped with Internet in punishment to have insulted Hastur.

More recently, Erwin occupied an IBM PC 5150 brought by Sid on its work place.

Greg Flemming

First appearance on November 17th, 1997.

Greg Flemming is in load of the Customer support of the company. In other words, it is the type which is tormented by the customers as soon as something does not turn out badly. It decompresses while spending time on the video games and while playing of nasty tricks to the commercial ones. He is not an ugly customer but its control on its mental equilibrium is between weak and non-existent, and he worked at one time for Microsoft Quality Assurance.

Smiling Man

First appearance on November 22nd, 1997.

Purchasing manager of the company. He manages the expenditure of those, and has a technique imparable to make flee the employees who come to ask him to buy such or such material: he smiles all the time, from where his nickname. This practice stresses whoever which speaks with him, even by interposed telephone.

Stef Murky

First appearance on November 17th, 1997.

Character working with the section marketing of the company. He gets along badly with the data processing specialists of the place like with Erwin, which he in addition tried to destroy several times during accesses of anger (when the program was in a furby, for example). He rejects all the operating systems, and, more generally, all the software not being published by Microsoft. This leads sometimes to dissensions with Mike, Pitr, A.J., and the others. The latter appreciate it less, and have fun sometimes with its costs. Lastly, he is the worst player of Quake ever recorded.
