to rough-hew It vanities is a Romance of Tom Wolfe published in 1987. Very quickly world best-seller, it is however only the first novel of its author. After having reversed a young Black in Bronx, Sherman McCoy, financial rich person of Wall Street, sees all its universe crumbling and flaming on roughing-hew it vanities.

History

Sherman McCoy is a financial rich person of Wall Street; he is married with Judy and father of a seven year old girl, Campbell. Whereas it returns from the airport where it was going to seek its mistress, Maria Ruskin, Sherman is mistaken in the exit in highway and finds herself right in the middle of Bronx. Maria and itself panic quickly, the tension reaching her paroxysm when they are blocked by a barricade of tires and that two young blacks propose their assistance.

Maria takes the wheel and, while trying to flee, shift one of the blacks, Henry Lamb, 19 years old. An investigation is led and leads quickly to Sherman. This one sees the prey of the journalists then, of the politicians who benefit from the business to force their re-election; Henry Lamb quickly becomes the symbol of the combat against a " Justice for Blancs".
As the business develops, Sherman sees all its universe collapsing. It loses his wife, her work, its friends and knows worst humiliations to ensure its defense.

It is finally the history of a man who believed himself extremely, above all - “Main of the Universe” - and which understands that its life full with artifices - claimed friendly, claimed power - cannot be any more and must burn on roughing-hew it its own vanities.

Adaptation

Brian de Palma carried out a adaptation of this novel in 1990, three years after the publication of the novel. Tom Hanks, Melanie Griffith and Bruce Willis holds the main roles to with it.
