To regulate speeds of a bicycle

adjustment of the bolts cable clamp of the shifting tracks

  • position the lever speeds so that the chain is on small the pinion
  • if the cable is not tended too much or enough, to loosen the nut cable clamp on the shifting track and draw the cable with a grip, you will have to maintain it tended while tightening the nut
  • made the same thing with the shifting track before

adjustment of the back shifting track

  • There exists much of types of shifting tracks whose adjustments theirs are clean. One finds nevertheless the same approach in all the manufacturers. Two screws of obstinate (high and low) limiting the race of the shifting track and an adjustment of tension of the cable polishing alignment (one and only one speed must pass each time and from the first blow). The step of the shifting track as for him is given by the changer speed and is not adjustable. It is necessary thus that the models of shifting track and gear shift lever are compatible.

  • the low thrust, that of the small pinion, is the home position of the shifting track. In this position, the cable does not have a tension. To change speed with the least request, it nevertheless is tended. It is necessary to position the chain on the large plate/small pinion (all outside). In this position the axis of the roller of the shifting track must be aligned with the external face of the small pinion of the cassette. Contrary to the coning stop the where the axes are aligned (difference is of a half thickness of pinion is approx. 0,8mm and is perhaps not essential). Once this regulated position one can possibly adjust the tension of the cable which must be neither loose nor tended (the precise adjustment is regulated at the end).

  • the coning stop, that of the largest pinion, is the extreme position of the shifting track, the tension is maximum. It is important to limit the race of the shifting track so that the chain does not go further and does not run off the line. It is necessary to position the chain on the small plate/large pinion, in this position alignment pinion-chain-roller must be perfect.

  • the tension of the cable is done in the last. In median position (plate means/medium of cassette), alignment pinion-chain-roller must be correct and especially the shiftings of speed must be reactive, speeds to pass without difficulty and only one at the same time. A fraction of turn (even a turn) of the screw of tension should be enough to obtain this result when several turns should shift a speed (what should not be necessary).

The problems of jump of chain are due to the wear of the cassette and/or of the chain and do not have average to be eliminated not any adjustment from the shifting track.

adjustment of the front shifting track

  • in order to limit the beat of the fork guides chain, there is, there too, two screws: one exploiting displacement downstream and the other upstream. Polish their adjustment so that the chain remains on the plates after any type of possible handling.
