To harpoon (hockey)

To harpoon ( butt-ending in English), with the Hockey is a penalty, called against a player having struck an adversary with the end of the handle of its stick.

Punishment

In the payment IIHF, the referee must sanction the faulty player by:
  • a double minor penalty (2*2 minutes) more one automatic penalty of méconduite for the match in the event of attempt at harpooning.
  • a major penalty (5 minutes) more one automatic penalty of méconduite for the match in the event of harpooning.
  • a penalty of match (25 minutes) in the event of wound following a harpooning.
