History

The first archaeological traces of occupation in Tizac de Lapouyade date from the end of the Gallo-Roman period. The etymology of the name of Tizac comes from a deformation of Latin Titiacum who indicated the field (agricultural) of certain Titius, Roman rich person come to settle in the area. The agricultural domain (called fundus in Latin) of Titius was seems it relatively vast and was to be organized around the villa of the Master. The workmen who exploited the field were to live in the vicinity what lets think that the archaeological potential of the commune could be important. To date only some vestiges of substruction are known. We have only very rare information on the beginning of the Middle Ages. Perhaps is necessary it to allot to this period the hillocks (called sometimes Tumulus or mounds castrales ) of which the most famous and always visible example, is located vis-a-vis the small station of Tizac. This hillock referred under the name of Lambreville Mound, remains a curiosity and was called by the inhabitants " the hill of calf of or". A second hillock today completely arrasé was not far with the Lavagnac locality. Other example of the same type are known on the commune of Lagorce. From the XV° century documentation becomes much more abundant and one will note the construction of the castle of Taillefer, of Commanderie de Lataste and from the church St Pierre which would contain it fall from this Mr. Lataste.
