Biography
Born on January 23rd, 1975, Jacob Ortiz says Tito begins the fight with the college under the direction from Paul Herrera. He is classified 4th with the championships senior of California then becomes champion at the university level. At the time, it is involved with Stephen Neal which will become world champion a few years later.
It makes its beginnings with the UFC little time after having left the school and takes part in the tournament of the UFC 13 (May 1997). With the first turn, it destroys literally Wes Albritton in 30 seconds in a style which will remain its usual style: the ground and pound. It meets then Guy Mezger and adopts the same strategy. Whereas it dominates Mezger, a misunderstanding occurs: the combat is stopped because Mezger would have given up. But this one and its team (Lion' S Den de Ken Shamrock) disputes the stop. The combat begins again and Ortiz tries to finish as fast as possible, but it is surprised by a guillotine and must give up. Disgusted, Tito remains absent from boxing rings until December 1998 when, at the time of West Coast NHB Championships 1, it has Jeremy Screeton in 16 seconds thanks to its ground and pound. It returns with the UFC 1 month later and is essential in the pain vis-a-vis Jerry Bohlander in a little less than 15 minutes. It can thus claim with another combat vis-a-vis Guy Mezger. The combat with place in the UFC 19 and Tito is essential in 9:56 by TKO thanks to its eternal ground and pound. Tito breaks out after the combat, it slips on a Tee-shirt posting " Gay Mezger is my bitch" (what means " Gay Mezger is my pute") and addresses a finger of honor to the corner of Mezger. Thus begins the competition between Tito Ortiz and Lion' S Den and more particularly Ken Shamrock.
With the UFC 22 (September 1999), he faces the brother of Ken: legendary Frank Shamrock for the title of the average weights. More tested and equipped with better a cardio, Shamrock comes to end from Ortiz before the end from the 4th round after a combat considered like one from best from the history from the UFC. But Frank Shamrock gives up the title little time after and Tito is seen offering another occasion in a new category, that of heavy-light which has just been created.
For the UFC 25 (April 2000), it must be demolished of Wanderlei Silva to become champion. Silva is with lépoque champion in title of the IVC and has just begun its career in Pride. At the end of the 5 rounds, Tito is declared victorious by unanimous decision. The domination of Tito is not so obvious and the decision is sometimes disputed. But this evening, Tito becomes the first champion lightheavyweight of the UFC.
It will defend its title with the UFC 29 by beating Yuki Kondo by tender easily, with the UFC 30 vis-a-vis Evan Tanner thanks to terrible a slam which puts KB To tan in 30 seconds and with the UFC 32 by TKO on Elvis Sinosic. He is then regarded as one of the best combatants in the world with this weight, Wanderlei Silva being about to become champion of Pride.
With the UFC 33 a challenge comes from size. This evening, Tito is supposed to face legendary Vitor Belfort which at the time is a machine which made devastations in Pride and the UFC. But Vitor is wounded with the drive and it is Vladimir Matyushenko who takes the combat with the raised foot. Vladimir Matyushenko is a good combatant, but not gauge of Ortiz especially with if little preparation. However this evening, the combat goes to the decision and is qualified by certain " fights most tedious of the histoire". Ortiz is criticized not to have overcome Vladimir before the limit.
This evening, a new challenger settles: Chuck Liddell, partner and friend of Ortiz come to end from Murilo Bustamante. A combat seems inevitable then the more so as Chuck Liddell beats Vitor Belfort with the UFC 37,5. This evening, Tito accepts the challenge of Chuck by declaring " It seems that I would be the next one, but before I have hope to regulate with Ken Shamrock". Indeed at that time, Shamrock returns with the UFC and did not forget the competition resulting from the combat against Mezger.
The combat takes place with the UFC 40 (November 2002), more looked at history of the UFC. The combat is with one way and Ken Shamrock impresses only by its resistance whereas Tito bludgeons it blows. At the end of 3 rounds, Shamrock cannot about it any more and it combat is stopped.
This evening, Chuck Liddell still strikes by putting KB Renato Sobral. Whereas it is to interview after the combat, Tito refuses the combat pretexting that its friendship with Liddell is worth more than the title and the money. Liddell contradicts it by declaring that Tito is a friend but whom it can face all the same it. Tito is obstinated to refuse the combat and the title is finally withdrawn to him. A temporary title is concerned between Couture and Liddell. Randy Seams in victorious fate and thus gains the right to fight Ortiz.
Tito accepts for probably 2 imperative reasons: first is that it does not have the choice if it wants to keep its title. Second is that Couture (40 years at the time) appears surely less dangerous to him than Liddell. But at the time of the UFC 44 (September 2003), Ortiz is completely dominated by Couture losing by unanimous decision and being caught even the smacking in the last round of the combat. It thus loses the title which it had held for 3 years.
From now on it does not have any more the choice and must fight Chuck Liddell if it wants to be likely new to fight for the title. At the time of the UFC 47 (April 2004), Ortiz makes the error want to exchange the blows with Liddell rather than to try supplies on the ground. The sanction falls at 38 seconds after the beginning from the second round and Ortiz is put KB for the first time of its career.
He seeks to make his return by accepting one 3rd combat against Guy Mezger, the combat is signed, but Mezger is reached cerebral problems and must put a term at its career. Patrick Dimensions, Canadian relatively little known accepts the combat little time before the event. Once again, Ortiz disappoints by beating Cote only by decision. Worse even, it passes close to the KB in the first round. The public criticizes Ortiz which however seems satisfied with its performance.
For the UFC 51, it fights finally Vitor Belfort. The combat is very tight: Vitor gains the first round, the two others being balanced enough. However it is Tito which gains a victory discussed by shared decision. After the combat, Ortiz makes its show while defying in salted an enough way Chuck Liddell and Ken Shamrock.
The image of Tito is seriously reached: after a series of poor combat, Ortiz offers the luxury to defy the champion and to want to renegotiate his contract. The UFC refuses to spend more for such performances and Ortiz leaves the UFC. The organization erases any trace of Ortiz. In this point, one does not believe to re-examine Tito with the UFC and this one comes into contact with organizations like Pride and the WFA. But nothing occurs and Tito returns finally with the UFC. Its return is announced at the time of the UFC 58: it will be coach at the time of the third edition of " The Ultimate Fighter" and will face Ken Shamrock (the other coach) a few days after the final.
Meanwhile, it fights the winner of TUFF 1, promising Forrest Griffin. Once again, Tito is essential by shared decision and criticisms reach tops when Tito claims that Griffin would have coated its oil legs to avoid the supplies on the ground. At all events, Ortiz takes share with the emission TUFF 3 and impresses by its qualities of coach by leading its combatants (Bisping and Groves) to the victory.
As its contract stipulated it, it must face Ken Shamrock with the UFC 61. Work is fast and Ortiz carries it in 1:18. The combat east can be to stop too early, but Ortiz gains this evening its first victory before the limit since the end of 2002.
